The Piano Tour in the heart of the capital - at the beat of the old stadium
Avantgarde Cultural Organization continues the successful institution of The Piano Tour with the next concert taking place at one of the most iconic points in Nicosia.
On Sunday night, July 5 at 19:30, a piano with tail will be found in the new town square, in the area of the old GSP, where the Cypriot composer and pianist Valentino Loizou will present her choice of piano works.
The Piano Tour is a unique series of concerts that redefines the audience's relationship with music, transporting it outside conventional halls abroad, unexpected and often inaccessible spaces. Every attitude of the institution is transformed into an authentic artistic event, where the space talks with the artist, repertoire and audience. To date, the institution has held 27 concerts with the participation of more than 40 artists, while in 2025 it was nominated for the Music Rights Award of the International Music Council.
Where the voices of thousands of spectators once echoed, Valentinine Loizu will let the piano tell a new story. Through her music, the space will fill sounds that converse with the memory, time and constant transformation of the city, giving a new, distinct pulse to the once historical stage. The distinguished neoclassical composer is known for her lyric sound and expressive interpretations. With classical piano studies and a graduate of Charles University in Prague, Valentinine draws from her experience both as a soloist and as a musical ensemble, creating works with an intense narrative character, dreamy atmospheres and flowing melodic lines.
In the old GSP square, Valentinine will present works from her last jobs “Metamorphosis”, “Belonging” and “Reflections” in a program that balances between modern neoclassical music, lyrality and the dynamics of film narrative. In a place that bears a strong imprint of Nicosia's collective memory, these three musical units develop a special conversation with their own environment: Metamorphosis focuses on the regeneration of the space from stage to public square, Belonging deals with the concept of returning and reclaiming space from the city and its people, while Reflections function as meditation on time, memory and stories that still reside in the place. The audience will experience an experience where music not only accompanies the space, but is co-formed with it, turning the old GSP square into a living field of memory, sound and contemporary artistic narrative.
The new square of the old GSP is one of the most important urban regeneration projects implemented in recent years in the capital. In the heart of Nicosia, in a space that for almost a century hosted sports games, national moments and countless personal memories, a modern public space of culture, green and social cohesion was created. Where stands were once raised, a large urban square is now spreading that reconnects citizens with their city and redefines a space of collective memory as a new reference point for Nicosia. With a dominant element the green and natural sound of running water, through the impressive watercourse that adorns the square, the space acquires an additional aesthetic dimension, enhancing its character as a modern urban landscape meeting and experience.
The iconic watch of KEO remains a living indicator of time and dominates the site as a point of reference and historical continuity, counting time in a place that was rebranded without being cut off from its past.
