The well-known fairy tale in a deep personal account of manipulation, abuse, loss
What happens when Red Riding Hood decides to tell her story herself? What is the truth behind the well-known fairy tale and what remains when innocence is lost?
Chrystalla Vasu's theatrical performance "My name | I became a whole red cape |" touches the myth of Red Riding Hood through a modern psychological prism, turning the well-known fairy tale into a deep personal narrative about the manipulation, abuse, loss and difficult process of reclaiming itself.
The heroine returns to recount her own version of the events. "I don't want to spoil fairy tales," he says, before deciding to reveal what really happened, "let's get a soul out there." The account follows the path of a woman who tried to love and be loved, was faced with violence and manipulation and sought the way back to herself.
Conversing with the poetic world of Jean-Cokteau, the performance utilizes the symbolic power of the fairy tale to illuminate experiences that remain topical and often unseen. The red cape turns into a symbol of an innocence lost, but also a sign of a course towards power, care and solidarity.
After the end of each performance will follow a discussion with the public about dysfunctional relationships, abuse and empowerment, under the coordination of registered counseling psychologist Philios Constantidou.
