Limassol also welcomes World Music Day this year with a two-day festival full of concerts, musical routes and outdoor events in the historic city center.
Alliance Française Limassol, in collaboration with Limassol Municipality, presents the "Fête de la Musique Limassol 2026", on 20 and 21 June, turning Castle Square and the surrounding streets into an open meeting area for musicians and audiences.
Alliance Française Limassol has been organizing World Music Day since 1987, contributing decisively to the establishment of the institution in the cultural life of the city. "Fête de la Musique", born in 1982 on the initiative of the French Ministry of Culture and is today celebrated in dozens of countries around the world, is based on the idea of free access to music and the transfer of art to the public space.
This year's event maintains the multi-collective character that distinguishes it, hosting musicians from different traditions and genres, from French song, classical music and jazz to funk, soul, Greek creation, folk, ska and rebetiko.
The opening of the festival will take place on Saturday 20 June at 7 p.m. by Limassol Mayor Giannis Armetis and the president of Alliance Française Limassol Niki Papadopoulou Papa.
The program opens with an impressive musical walk by the Batukino percussion band, with the participation of fifty musicians, who will cross the pedestrian street of St Andrews and Birthday Mitella Street ending in Castle Square.
On the main stage will follow the French-language duet Avant Tout Duo with Vanessa Megaloemou and Vassilis Vourvopoulos, the musical ensemble Echo of Mandolines, the Quartet of Peaceful Kullura with jazz standards and the Fuzzy Colors with a program full of funk, soul and groovy moods.
On Sunday, June 21st, on the day of World Music Day, the events begin in the courtyard of the Medieval Castle with the Limassol Municipality Philharmonic. The central scene will then host Aura Voices with a program dedicated to Greek and French melodies of the Mediterranean, Dimitris Messimeris's band with original Greek music, Bazook who marry folk with rock and ska elements, as well as an authentic rebetiko feast with Andreas Valanidis, James Efthymiou and Apostolis Constantine.
The festival will be completed with a large outdoor party at Mitella Birthday Street, with Kingofeye taking over the musical reins in an evening with reggae and francophone influences.
At the same time, on Saturday after 7-9pm, Channel 6 will broadcast live from Medieval Castle Square, carrying the pulse of the event across the city.
