Albert Camus' classic masterpiece is transferred to the big screen by François Ozon
1938. Meursault, a quiet and humble employee in his early thirties, attends his mother's funeral without tears. The next day, she starts a loose relationship with Marie, a colleague. He quickly returns to his usual routine.
However, his everyday life will soon be disturbed by his neighbor, Raymond, who involves Meursault in his shadow affairs. Until a hot day, a tragic event happens on a beach that will change everything. ..
One of the most iconic stories of the 20th century, "The Stranger", Albert Camus' classic masterpiece, is transferred to the large screen by François Ozon, in a new film approach moving between existential drama, police thriller and judicial film.
In his film approach, Ozon places particular emphasis on the relationship between the two communities of the time and the overall social atmosphere of Algeria of the 1930s, incorporating elements that enhance the contemporary recruitment of the work and illuminate the dimension of the "foreign" within a world of strict conventions and hierarchies.
In Meursault's iconic role, Benjamin Voisin gives an interpretation built on silence, observation and internal tension, while next to him Rebecca Marder brings Marie vitality, sensuality, and a dynamic presence that acts as a powerful counterbalance to the hero's closed world.
Pierre Lottin plays Raymond Sintès, with a charming but also threatening energy, while on their side we meet Denis Lavant as Salamano and Swann Arlaud in the role of Priest, composing a cast that unites familiar Ozon partners with faces of the younger generation of French cinema.
The film premieres on Saturday, July 4th at the Nicosia Pantheon cinema, with daily screenings up to July 15th. D-Pem: 20.30, PWG: 18.00, 20.30
