A work that, maintaining its poetic density, talks with the modern world, where the violence of war is repeated
The successful tragedy, Troades, directed by Carlota Ferrer and produced by the Producers Come y Calla and the International Classical Theatre Festival of Merida, is the opening production of this year's Festival event. The role of Ekhabi is starred by the renowned actress Isabel Ordaz, framed by a dynamic set of actors.
After Troy's fall, the women of the once-glorious city await the end held by the winners: slavery, exile, violence. Within a landscape of havoc, the captive Trojans and their queen, Ekabe, become bearers of a memory that refuses to be extinguished. Pain leads not only to loss, but also to a silent resistance to oblivion.
The Spanish production, presented in 2025 at the International Classical Theatre Festival of Merida, extracting particularly warm reviews from audiences and critics, transforms Euripides' tragedy into a modern stage experience, where the reason coexists with physicality, music, movement and visual compositions. Through a dense grid of symbolisms, projections and soundscapes, the performance highlights the violence of war and its consequences on the bodies and lives of the defeated, especially women, as key carriers of memory and trauma.
The Trojans do not simply tell a story of defeat. They make up a mourning scene that turns into a witness. A work that, maintaining its poetic density, talks with the modern world, where the violence of war is repeated and human costs remain unabated.
