An exceptional discovery for history
Shoah Memorial, September 2020. Two collectors present themselves at the service of the photo library with five photo contact plates laminated on large cardboard sheets. Of these photographs, only seven are already known to subject specialists and have been published. They are marked with a cross on the original boards. The others are new. This is the full report. An exceptional set of 98 images comes to light 80 years after the facts. This report documents the first mass arrest of Jews in France, the "green note" raid of 14 May 1941, ordered by the Occupant and organized by the French authorities.
Today, an exhibition and book offer the public the opportunity to participate in the investigation that has enabled Harry Croner to find the photographer's identity and understand his "look" at these tragic events, a view on which German censorship has fallen, condemning these historical photographs to an oblivion of more than 80 years.
