Two-voice visit: The garden city of La Muette in Drancy, from modern utopia to tragedy (1930-1945)
When: 20.09.2026 11:30
Where: 48.918788, 2.453450

This visit offers a dive into the complex history of the cité de la Muette. Designed as a modern garden city intended for the working classes, it embodies the urban utopias of the 20th century. Influenced by the ideas of the International Congresses of Modern Architecture (CIAM), architects Eugène Beaudouin and Marcel Lods introduced major innovations in construction. But the fate of this city shifts under the Occupation: thought of as a place of social emancipation, the city becomes an internment camp.
This visit traces the evolution of this place and its tragic destiny during World War II.
Offered in partnership with the Regional Association of Garden Cities of Île-de-France and the Drancy town hall.
