The 14th State-Saint Light Agricultural Festival announced a date
Although old agricultural practices tend to gradually disappear, in the villages of Cyprus there are still people who keep the popular heritage, agricultural traditions and traditional professions alive. If you want to get to know in person a way of life that belongs to other times, take the road to Statos-Agios Fotios in the province of Pafos, where a separate agricultural festival takes place, the 14th Agricultural Festival "In the depths of tradition", which will take place on Sunday, September 20, at 11.00.
Visitors will have the opportunity to attend old agricultural work in person that we rarely encounter, such as the plowing of the field with aletri and oxen, the threshing of barley with a ducan – a traditional threshing tool drawn by oxen or mules – as well as the planting of vines with a bifurcated wooden stick in the shape of "Y".
An exhibition will also be held in the context of the festival with traditional tools, agricultural equipment and objects associated with old professions, giving visitors the opportunity to get to know more about the everyday life of people in the Cypriot countryside.
The Cypriot culinary tradition has a special place in the celebration. Browse the local wineries and try different varieties of wine, while at the festival stalls you will see the production of favorite traditional products and dishes.
From Palouse and Sujiukko to Zivania, Trahanas, Hallumi, Anari, fresh bread and resi, as well as chamarella, sweets of the spoon, bread cookies and kamerka, the festival is a real acquaintance with the flavors and products of the Cypriot countryside.
Activities for smaller visitors will not, of course, be missed. Children can have fun with face painting, inflatable, watercolor painting and pottery, while at the end of the day the festival culminates with a music program with traditional songs and dances.
A beautiful occasion for a walk in the Cypriot countryside and a journey to the traditions, flavors and images of another era.
