Mitsikouri 2026 is growing and traveling all over Cyprus

The program of the third edition of the International Festival of Performing Arts for Children and Young People Mitsikouri was officially presented on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at the Levantine Gallery.
The Festival is organized by the Center for Theatre for Children and Young People - ASSITEJ Cyprus.
From October 10 to 18, 2026, 14 productions from 11 countries will be presented in Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca and Paphos, while Festival activities will also take place in the district of Ammochostos.
For the first time, Mitsikouri will have a presence in all districts of Cyprus, expanding children’s and young people’s access to high‑level performing arts.
This year’s program addresses the entire age spectrum, from infancy to 18 years. It includes theatre, dance, contemporary circus, participatory and inclusive performances, as well as works that combine different forms of artistic expression. Many of the productions have been shown at major international festivals, receiving warm reviews and audience response.
Productions from France, Italy, the United Kingdom, Japan, Switzerland, Norway, Belgium, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Sweden, Luxembourg and Cyprus make up a colourful programme, with particular emphasis on non‑verbal or limited‑speech creation, so that the experience is accessible to as many children as possible. The international productions are under the auspices of the respective embassies and cultural bodies of the countries from which they originate.
A special place in the programme is held by the fully inclusive performance “Helix – The Hanging Garden” from Norway, presented in collaboration with the ENA Foundation and the University of Limassol. After its final showing, a round‑table discussion on inclusion and accessibility in the performing arts will follow.
The production “Kuris Kuri” from Lithuania will be presented in open squares, with the support of the Cyprus Sports Organization, as part of the BeActive and “Sports for All” programmes. The collaboration creates a lively dialogue between sport, movement and culture.
Within the Festival’s partnership with the Levantine Gallery, the Belgian production “PLOCK!” will be presented, bringing performing and visual arts closer to children and their families.The French production “Souvenirs” is presented in collaboration with the International Festival of Nicosia 2026.
The program also includes “Immobile & Rebondi” by the French Compagnie Lamento, the participatory “Archipelago” from Italy, “Club Origami” from the United Kingdom and Japan, “The Story of Larry” from Switzerland, the productions “WOW!” and “Be Kind” from the Netherlands, “DUST” from Sweden, “Coperta” from Luxembourg and the Cypriot production “Kiki and Koko go Loco”.
The event will begin on Saturday, October 10 with a festive walking activity in the heart of Nicosia. Music, surprises and creative interventions will accompany the route to the Melina Mercouri Cultural Center, where the official opening of the Festival will take place.
An open and accessible festival
The main goal of Mitsikouri is for every child to have the opportunity to be in theater, regardless of where they live, their economic or social reality, and their particular needs.
This year’s edition strengthens accessibility and inclusion actions, as well as initiatives aimed at children from vulnerable or under‑represented groups and from mountainous, rural and remote areas. For the first time, organized collaborations with schools are also being developed, through special performances and activities for students.
