It is a stream-of-consciousness monologue – a flood of thoughts and images that arise from the narrator’s mind in an uninterrupted flow
The work was written in 2020 and was first presented at the Royal Court theatre in London. In 2023 it was presented again in the same venue as part of a poetic trilogy by the author, which then traveled to the Avignon Festival.
It is a stream-of-consciousness monologue – a flood of thoughts and images that arise from the narrator’s mind in an uninterrupted flow. At times elliptical, at times fragmentary, associative and repetitive, the thought‑memory that turns into speech captures with humor, awkwardness, sincerity, directness and tenderness the journey of an anonymous woman from birth to the moment of final departure.
Thus a mapping of the character’s path is achieved through all the stages of human life: infancy and childhood, adolescence and adulthood, with whatever they may include – curiosity, uncertainty, rebellions, menstrual flow, sexuality, marriage, motherhood, divorce, the routine of everyday life, loss and death.
The experimental form of the work, which illuminates the character’s unconscious stream and the reconstruction of memory, leads the audience into a constant vigilance and serves as a reminder that life moves at high speeds and slips from our hands like a grain of sand.
