Marios Ioannou and Stefania Neofytou present the iconic work of Nikolai Gogol in a modern version in the Cypriot dialect, with free admission
Almost two decades after its first presentation, Nikolai Gogol’s “The Diary of a Madman” returns to the stage in a more mature, lively, and constantly evolving theatrical version. The performance will be presented on Sunday, September 13, at the Public Garden of Paphos, behind the Municipal Hall.
On stage, Marios Ioannou collaborates with Stefania Neofytou, who utilizes her voice and musical talent to create a living soundscape. Her vocal improvisations converse with the interpretation and give the classic work a distinctive, contemporary character.
Through the Cypriot dialect and a renewed stage perspective, the performance illuminates loneliness, the need for recognition, social marginalization, and the fragile relationship of man with reality. Themes that lie at the core of Gogol’s work and remain relevant almost two centuries after its writing.
The performance is dedicated to the memory of Giorgos Christodoulidis, who composed the music for the original production.
