In Tomorrowisnowtodayisyesterday (TiNTiY), Sung Im Her explores the impact of modern media consumption on our bodies and minds. On a deliberately clean, almost raw tray, three interpreters perform "over-product" gestures. Choreography uses repetition hypnotically, punctuated with comic moments evoking e.g. internet memes. The "clubbing" soundtrack, composed by the Belgian duo Husk Husk, ends up transforming the scene into a contemporary trance space.
Don't get me wrong, this "pop" proposal does not avoid rigor. Sung Im Her's work is distinguished by a constant balance between a formal minimalist aesthetic and a committed narrative. As a choreographer, she seeks the essence of the movement, creating a repetitive gesture, stripped of any prior cultural or personal significance.
Created in 2024, this piece is the result of international collaboration, co-sponsored by the Seoul Performing Arts Festival (South Korea) and The Place (United Kingdom). The work of Sung Im Her is part of a dual historical tradition. On the one hand, her training at the prestigious P.A.R.T.S. school in Belgium links her to a very structured movement writing. On the other hand, his collaborations with major companies such as Les ballets C de la B or Needcompany place his work at the heart of the "Belgian wave" of contemporary dance, famous for its fusion between extreme physical performance and political stakes. Tomorrowisnowtodayisyesterday (TiNTİY) is a joyful fusion of all these heritages.
