Originally from the north of England, the Lilacs are an energetic indie band from Wigan. In just a few years, the band went from being a local favorite to a national phenomenon, cementing its reputation with a sold‑out monumental concert at Manchester Academy 1 on November 22, 2025.
With tens of thousands of listeners on Spotify and millions of streams worldwide, the band has become a staple on the airwaves, from BBC Radio 1 and Radio X to their local champions at XS Manchester. Their first single, “Vicarage Road”, remains a scene anthem, now featured on thousands of curated playlists and serving as a catalyst for their rise.
Born from a deep friendship forged in a former band, Ollie Anglesea (vocals) and Sam Birchall (lead guitar) developed the desire to create their own legacy. The lineup was completed in October 2018 with the arrival of Dave Gomersall (drums) and Matt Johnson (bass).
The band's name carries a deep meaning. It is inspired by the Lilac Centre, a cancer specialty center where Sam's mother was treated during her battle with metastatic breast cancer. After her death, the “guys” felt that this name was a tribute they simply could not ignore.
