Au Pairs is a post-punk band originally formed in 1978. In 1983, the initial training was dissolved. After a long break, the band reformed with a new band that included the original singer, Lesley Woods.
The current training includes Estella Adeyeri (from Big Joanie) to bass, Alex Ward (known for her collaborations with Thurston Moore and Pere Ubu) on guitar, and Jem Doulton (also associated with Thurston Moore) on drums.
They are currently making their first major tour in the UK for more than 40 years, reviewing their first 1981 album, "Playing with a Different Sex", while presenting new songs in anticipation of a recording scheduled later this year. In February 2026, the band performed a series of closed ticket concerts in Arnhem, Venlo, Leyde and Eindhoven in the Netherlands.
Formed in the late 1970s, in the post-punk era, the Au Pairs group distinguished itself by combining politically committed and feminist themes with a rhythmic and dancing sound, influenced by funk. Their work has often been qualified in advance of its time.
The current training gives renewed energy to the pieces of the group, thus stressing their continued relevance to the contemporary context. Their performances on stage are direct and captivating: rhythmic, perfectly controlled and focused on maintaining a strong link with the public. The result is an immediate and immersive concert, which leaves the audience full of energy and totally captivated.
