Aquatint is an etching process that allows the production of effects comparable to wash on a metal plate thanks to a grainy coating of resin powder resistant to the mordant, allowing the creation of different shades of gray depending on the acid bite time on the plate.
This workshop focuses on deepening and understanding the various steps of the aquatint technique.
The transparent superposition of several successive aquatints, each with its different bite times, allows us to greatly expand the spectrum of values from white to black, passing through all the subtleties of gray engraved on the same plate.
This progressive search for deep, nuanced blacks in the characteristic wash of the aquatint technique invites us, while always remaining in engraving, to a gestural practice close to that of the painter.
