SOLAXIS is an unparalleled ensemble: From baritone to soprano, the great saxophone family is summoned for a summit meeting of five exceptional musicians, recognized soloists, whose paths have crossed for years, on stage and in studio.
Saxophonist Lisa Cat-Berro (nominated for the Victoires du Jazz 2013) brought them together and took on the challenge of composing for this atypical ensemble, with the starting point being the desire to explore all the sonic possibilities offered by a sax quintet and to exalt this instrument. Added to that is a solid low‑end rhythm / drums provided by two pillars of the Parisian jazz‑groove scene. Powered by this tailor‑made repertoire, each soloist can then express her own personality, and it is seven strong and singular temperaments that are revealed here.
Slalomant with virtuosity between jazz, instrumental pop, 70's electro and afro‑beat, SOLAXIS catches us with a dense sound, sculpted in the mass, sophisticated arrangements and an intense groove, a kaleidoscope of hypnotic motifs carried by flawless rhythm. Conceived as a true manifesto, this group with powerful and inspiring energy raises high the colors of the saxophone.
