With Ear Witness, Simon Spang-Hanssen engages a contemporary jazz quartet where composition and improvisation continuously confront each other, in an open aesthetic inherited from his collaborations with figures such as John Tchicai or Michel Portal, between formal rigor and freedom of play.
On piano, Mario Canonge, trajectory between Martinique and Paris, Ultramarine with Nguyên Lê, percussive playing and mixed harmonies nourished by jazz and Caribbean influences, an essential presence on the French scene.
On bass, Linley Marthe, former member of the Joe Zawinul Syndicate, known for his power and virtuosity, a dense, precise sound, immediately identifiable in contemporary jazz fusion.
On drums, Adriano Tenorio, Brazilian heritage and European circulation, collaborations with Mayra Andrade or Gregory Privat, a flexible, structuring playing, deeply rooted in rhythm and movement.
Together, a tense and organic collective language, where each voice retains its identity while building a coherent whole, with in the background excerpts from the upcoming album Seconds Ago by Simon Spang-Hanssen (release 28 août 2026) and a tribute to Félix Sabal-Lecco.
