Why do authoritarian powers always seem so obsessed with ancient columns, starting with Trump and his ballroom project? Why did the hashtag #RomanEmpire explode on social media, reflecting a masculine fascination with order and imperial aesthetics? And how can the Bauhaus, a small modernist applied arts school from the Saxon province, active for a dozen years and closed for more than a century, represent a power issue today? What sounds does it make, a cultural war?
Roman Empire (I'm trying to learn to live with fear) will have fun trying to answer these riddles and will explore the relationships between power and architecture by summoning a few ghosts, Roman or not, and by posing the question from the very place where it is stated: a theater. To the majesty of the summoned architectures will respond a sober and rigorous, whimsical, fragile and mischievous form.
