With the XP – XP Quartet for Experience, of course – Magic Malik continues to move on in free ground, where jazz is reinvented at every moment. Flutist with a singular look, curious about everything, he manipulates the sounds as one plays with light: by moving the shadows, by creating unexpected colors. His flute speaks, breathes and amuses itself by this recognizable energy that crosses all his music.
At his side, three musicians as inventive as listening: Mailys Maronn on the piano, who were also heard in the Kafrobeat adventure, Jean-Luc Lehr on bass fed by traditions from India, Africa and Eastern Europe, and Vincent Sauve on drums, somewhere between intuitive jazz and random music. Together, they make the scene a collective playing space where changing grooves, surprising harmonies and fleeting melodies follow each other without anything ever frozen.
After a live incandescent album recorded at the Kiss Salé, hailed for its freshness and spontaneity, the Quartet XP continues its journey: a lively, demanding and generous music, to follow with its eyes closed, the heart wide open.
