What if nature became our best ally in designing tomorrow's architecture?
The living world is a source of inspiration both aesthetic and technical for imagining sustainable, resilient, and regenerative habitats. Foundations inspired by tree root systems, mycomaterials derived from fungi, weather‑sensitive façades mimicking pine cone scales … all innovations that illustrate the richness of solutions crafted by nature over evolution. Faced with environmental challenges, especially water management, bio‑inspired habitat proposes rethinking how we design buildings. By relying on principles such as multifunctionality, adaptation, and nesting of scales, it seeks to better integrate the interactions between the habitat, its environment, and the surrounding ecosystems. Come discover what is being done today in bio‑inspired architectural design … and also what the city of tomorrow could look like!
Thibaut Houette
Thibaut Houette is an architect, PhD in biomimetics and biotechnology, and R&D&I and habitat mission lead at the Centre for National Studies and Expertise in Biomimetics (Ceebios). Graduated from the École nationale supérieure d’architecture Paris‑Val de Seine and PhD in integrated bioscience from The University of Akron, he has been developing the integration of biomimetics into architectural design for over ten years. After leading a research project on water management in architecture through biomimetics with the MAP‑MAACC laboratory, he joined the Biomimicry Research and Innovation Center for his doctorate focused on integrating biological growth into architecture through biomimetics and biotechnology. Passionate about living strategies, his projects span many scales, from mycelium‑based materials to the abstraction of ecosystem services. He joins Ceebios to apply his multidisciplinary knowledge in industrial R&D&I processes and habitat to accelerate the ecological transition.
