At the end of the 1960s, carried by the flight of
Iran is dreaming of a "regional centre for the arts and
architecture": the state summons the great Western masters,
multiply congress and contest, and the patronage of Queen Farah Diba makes
of architecture an instrument of political prestige. From this momentum is born
a paradox that this book calls the desire for avant-garde, an aspiration
ardent to progress which imports models already outdated without leaving
emerge from local avant-garde. From unpublished sources, Desire
of the vanguard retraces two decisive decades until the revolution of
1979, and offers a rare reflection on architectural modernity outside
West.
FMSH is pleased to welcome the editions of La Commune for an evening of presentation of the book Le désir d'avant-garde.
On this occasion, its author, Sina Abédi, will present her work before talking with Richard Scoffier, architect and writer.
The meeting will be followed by an exchange time with the public.
About the book
In the late 1960s, driven by oil revenues,
Iran has a spectacular prosperity and dreams in the center
Regional Arts and Architecture". The State calls the most
major Western architects, multiple reviews, congresses and competitions
Queen Farah Diba's patronage of international
architecture an instrument of prestige and political legitimacy. From
Tehran in Ispahan, a generation of Iranian architects collaborate with
Masters from America and Europe, between mass housing and
restoration of historic sites.
From this momentum arises a paradox that this book calls desire
avant-garde: an ardent aspiration to progress that matters ideas
Western countries already outdated without letting an avant-garde emerge
truly local. Ispahan becomes the symbol, shared between the
safeguard his Persian gardens and the arrival of gigantic
Industrial equipment.
From new sources and a rich iconography, Desire
avant-garde retraces two decisive decades, until they change
with the 1979 revolution. Beyond the Iranian case alone, it offers a
rare reflection on architectural modernity outside the West.

About the speakers
Sina Abedi, born in Ispahan, Iran, is a doctor.
in architecture, teacher-researcher and cultural entrepreneur. Graduate
of the National School of Architecture of Versailles and Doctor
he is an associate researcher at the University of Paris-Est
laboratory IPRAUS (Paris Research Institute: architecture,
the National School of Architecture
Paris-Belleville. He is also Executive Director for France of
the French-Chinese Chair MAGE (Métropoles et Architecture des Grands
Events). Along with his academic activities, Sina Abedi
invests in the cultural field and leads several organisations
on interdisciplinary artistic creations and exchanges
Intercultural. He is also a director of the Foundation.
National Arts Council.
Richard Scoffier is an architect, critic and
Theoretician. He founded his agency after being awarded the Albums of
the Young Architecture, and has signed in particular the Music Center of
Amiens and the 18th arrondissement Association House.
Full professor at the ENSA of Versailles and Paris-Val de Seine de
1992 to 2023, he has been leading the Popular University of the Pavilion since 2011
Arsenal. Author of more than four hundred articles and several
