Muette, which Boris Charmatz writes and dances, will not be a sequel to the solo Somnole, but an extension of his commitment as a performer. A piece of minimalism like a manifesto. To listen to and to watch… in silence.
“I’ve taken years to start choreographing solo, but I’m not going to stop there,” confesses Boris Charmatz as an introduction. Thus after Somnole, a piece about breath and skin, the choreographer signs Muette, “dance of astonishment, of silenced emotions.” Muette will be guided by “what does not happen, not even by the lips, what does not come out, what sometimes acts as a screen to expression and movement.” Boris Charmatz has accustomed us to exceed expectations, daring an opus in a cathedral, an occupation of a library or the Palais Garnier, constantly seeking the resonance of bodies with the times. A singular soloist as evidenced by the duo A bras le corps, created with Dimitri Chamblas that the pair still performs, Boris Charmatz makes Muette a visceral gesture. “We will listen to a dance that burns quietly.” And to invite everyone to enter this other dimension, a choreography like a suspended time.
