As part of the Month of Doc 2026
and the Counter-current theme, the Buffon library
invites you to the screening of the documentary film Un village en résistance (France/Italy,
2023, 75 minutes) directed by Shu Aiello and Catherine Catella.
For 20 years, the small village depopulated
of Riace in Calabria (Italy) has made welcoming migrants its future. But
the populists who come to power, Matteo Salvani in the lead, make Riace
their target. Piloted by the political world, Italian justice is beginning to
pursuing the mayor of the village, Domenico Lucano, victim of a relentless
unfair, pathetic and often grotesque.

But never really alone. On the contrary, it is increasingly surrounded.
His fate was at stake, but his struggle was carried by civil society. The thread of
resistance never breaks: it is present where the ideals of
tolerance and inclusion survive against everything; it is incarnate in
testimonies gleaned here and there, those of the inhabitants, activists,
the film staged in real listening moments that, far from
the incendiary fury of propagandistic discourses, raise the debate and often
bring him back to the essentials.
