A walk‑tour of the upcoming exhibition
The beauty of Alhambra could make one forget that it is first and foremost a fortress, surrounded by walls and towers and serving as a garrison, and that nasride emirate is in fact a state in a suspended condition, constantly threatened and undermined by neighboring states. Parallel to the collection of weapons, armor and horse equipment, the immersion will allow the visitor to uncover a hidden and little‑known masterpiece of Arab painting, depicting the return of a victorious military expedition.
The Lion Fountain, which gave the palace its current name, its host, the most iconic part of Alhambra and a masterpiece of nasride art, has been reinterpreted over the centuries following the Christian conquest. What did it look like during the reign of Muhammad V, who ordered its installation? Around the replica of the fountain the visitor learns various scientific hypotheses about the meaning, shape and operation of the fountain. The main exhibit of the exhibition, it will also serve as a reason to discuss the importance of water for the entire palace complex, both in an aesthetic sense and in its essential significance for the very life of the site.
