This hybrid animation documentary immerses us in the transgressive universe of Edgar Hilsenrath, the first German Jewish writer who dared to laugh in the face of the worst. His monumental work inspired by his crossing of the Shoah is presented in flagship titles, such as Le nazi et le barbier (1971) and Fuck America (1980). His masterpiece Nuit, published in the United States in 1976 and which achieved immediate success, was first published in 1964 in Germany before being withdrawn from sale by the publishing house because of the crudity of the language. It remained censored in Germany for nearly 20 years. Without gloss or detours or circumlocutions, Hilsenrath's work is that of magnificent losers and aimless wanderings without glory. It is the incisive acuity of the marginalised on the depths of human experience.
