The company invents a free and resolutely lively form, written according to current events. Carried by four actresses and singers, two masters of ceremony and two musicians, this seventh opus falls within the tradition of a “documented” theatre, where reality is observed and transformed to be better put into play. Sketches, songs and games with the audience follow one another. From fiery rallies to the soft backstage of power, the performers bite with humor and sharpness the small political theatre: figures, tics, postures, contradictions and spats are revealed there with acuity.
The Birgit Ensemble thus sketches a sensitive and subjective portrait of our time, between burlesque and satire. Laughter becomes a shared space to face reality — a skillful blend of provocation, lucidity and fantasy in the service of a delightful session of collective catharsis.

The Maison des Métallos, in partnership with Peuple & Culture, invites you to a surveying workshop around the work On ne peut plus rien dire. Freedom of expression: the great distortion by Thomas Hochmann, published by Éditions Anamosa in March 2025.
According to most political leaders, to push back the far right, it would be enough to take good measures, to improve people's lives. They are gravely mistaken. Although essential and necessary, the content of policies enacted seems to matter far less than the way they are presented and commented on; the best policy in the world does not weigh heavily against the widespread dissemination of statements that manipulate facts, sow division and encourage discrimination. The urgency is therefore to protect, finally, the essential condition of any democracy: free discussion of public affairs, with respect for others, and on a shared factual basis.
In an incredible reversal indeed, any effort to protect democratic debate is today denounced as an attack on “freedom of expression”. As soon as a chant of the “national” camp is sanctioned, or even simply contradicted a bit forcefully, they lament: “On ne peut plus rien dire…” This lament of the newly censored stretches all day long on television sets. Every contradiction is denounced as an aggression, the fight against racism is presented as a mark of “woke” intolerance. When a judge timidly reminds that a news channel cannot devote its entire broadcast to far‑right propaganda, a wave of indignation immediately erupts against “censorship”, this “symbolic guillotine”.
Yet hatred and lies seriously harm democratic deliberation. That is why restrictions on public expression, far from being contradictory to freedom of expression, are inherent to it.
The “freedom of expression” brandished by reactionary currents, which covers all manipulations and all assaults, is a trap. True freedom of expression is exercised within a framework that specifically excludes any hate speech, without ever hindering public debate.
In an alert and accessible style, this book reveals how the far right has seized freedom of expression to better pervert it. Facing the mountain of works that denounce wokeness and censorship, it shows how to reclaim this fundamental freedom, after having recalled and defended, with examples, the laws that prohibit hate speech and disinformation campaigns. Because their implementation now constitutes our only and final chance to push back the far right.
