The exhibition curators revisit this porosity between disciplines, the resonances that weave between the works of the Collection Lafayette Anticipations and the creations emerging from AlUla’s design programs, and the way these objects continue to evolve according to their uses, contexts, and the gazes they provoke.
The exhibition’s title echoes the work of art historian Henri Focillon, *Vie des formes* (1934), for whom art and architecture “collaborate in the creation of a world.”
On the occasion of this meeting, Clément Delépine, director of Lafayette Anticipations and co-curator of the exhibition, Arnaud Morand, head of Arts and Creative Industries at AfalUla and co-curator of the exhibition, and Ali Alghazzawi, head of the artist residency program of the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) and associate curator, reflect on the choices that guided the dialogue between pieces from AlUla’s residency programs and works from the Collection Lafayette Anticipations – Famille Moulin Endowment Fund.
They are joined by designers Ori Orisun Merhav and Mehdi Kebaier (ALTIN Studio), both from the AlUla 2025 design residency program, to discuss how works such as Harrat by Studio ThusThat, Palm Chronicles by ALTIN, or Die Bibliothek I by Katinka Bock conceive material as a repertoire of gestures and sedimented histories. Together, they explore the links that unite contemporary art and design, envisioned here as two sister disciplines.
