Proposed by the musical team Bibliothèque Buffon, 'L'Intégrale' invites you to take time to fully immerse yourself in listening to a work or album in its entirety. Full listening is accompanied by a short presentation.
For this new 'L'Intégrale' session we use the theme “Nature — source of inspiration” from the 2026 edition of L'Automne de la science in Paris libraries, to meet the musician “outside the norm”…
Over six decades singer and composer Meredith Monk (born in 1942) explores what she calls “primary discourse”, these non‑verbal sounds produced by the voice that extend below and beyond language, expressing “that for which we have no words”. This research led her to create music described by The New Yorker as simultaneously “visceral and ethereal, rough and passionate”, art that “sings, dances and meditates on eternal forces”.
With the album 'On Behalf Of Nature' (released on the ECM label in 2016) Meredith Monk touches on themes of ecology and climate change. She explains that this work is a “meditation on our intimate connection with nature, its inner structures, the fragility of its ecology and our interdependence”. Voices and instruments have equal importance: sometimes heard separately, sometimes mixed, forming a new and mysterious sound, they gather into complex and multilayered yet transparent sonic landscapes.
