At the beginning of the 1980s, historian Margaret Rossiter defined the Matilda effect as the denial of any contribution by women scientists to scholarly work. Certainly we know Marie Curie but who else? What made Hypatia of Alexandria, Sophie Germain, Lise Meitner, Marthe Gautier, Esther Lederberg, Eunice Foote or even the Harvard Computers, or the Hidden Figures, “invisible”? Louis-Pascal Jacquemond, PhD in history, associate professor at Science Po Paris and author of "L'effet Matilda", will analyze, through this conference, the careers of these women scientists and what underlies their “invisibility”.
