Jean‑Claude Caron on smells and fragrances at Balzac with his book “Le nez de Balzac, suivi de Odorama balzacien” published by Champ Vallon editions.
The historian has agreed to present his book, of great richness, drawing on “La Comédie humaine”, but also on Balzac’s correspondence and on testimonies from his circle. The author also discusses the scents of Balzac’s body. Thus, Balzac’s nose has its place and Jean‑Claude Caron also mentions that of his characters. Isn’t it said, “he has a nose,” an evocative metaphor.
