"Mr Sabbagh expresses himself confidently and his compositions, flexible and solid at the same time, seduce the listener. Also important is the fact that the other members of the group are constantly on the lookout for unedited and unexpected, both individually and collectively. Sabbagh avoids direct allusions to the sacred monsters of the saxophone. On the contrary, he develops a personal and sincere vocabulary, in a simple and effective way. »
– New York Times
Jerome Sabbagh, saxophonist and composer, was born in Paris in 1973 and has been living in New York since 1995. He focuses on lyricism, sound quality, and seeks the right sentence. Saxophonist both from the jazz tradition and representative of the contemporary New York scene in what she has more eclectic and living, Jerome Sabbagh's style is marked by a deep attachment to the melody. Sabbagh offers varied and coherent music that oscillates between pop/rock and mysterious climates, always leaving an important part to improvisation. He was one of Paul Motian's last saxophonists, with whom he played a week at the Vanguard Village with Ben Monder. He recorded twelve records as a leader, including the very noticed "Mission" with Kenny Barron, and "Heart", with Al Foster in one of his final recordings. He also recorded with Ben Street, Rodney Green, Daniel Humair, Jozef Dumoulin, Greg Tuohey and Johnathan Blake.
His latest album, "Stand Up!" with Ben Monder, Joe Martin and Nasheet Waits, appeared in October on the label he founded, Analog Tone Factory.
