In this irreverent show – where she dismantles religion, “wokism” and family pressures with a rhythmic, direct and unfiltered speech – Mami Watta tells her unconventional journey. It is an opportunity for her to question what some call “deviance” or “excess” – too queer, too black, too visible – by using shade, that sharp and often bawdy humor of ballroom culture, which disarms as much as it liberates. By turning the intimate into a political gesture, she loudly claims her place on this stage and in the world. The stage then becomes a place of repair, but above all of gathering, for an entire generation that has so often been told there was “not enough space”. Around the show Bord plateau (JEU. 17 SEPT.)
