The Le Quatuor Arod, which won in 2016 the prestigious Concours de l’ARD, plays as a prelude to this concert placed under the sign of friendship the Quatuor n° 4 de Beethoven, a work particularly well received in its time, which had the effect of exasperating the composer, rarely satisfied. French music follows, with the Sonate pour violon et piano de Debussy, a score of a fanciful outburst, then the dazzling Tzigane de Ravel, one of its most deliberately virtuosic pages. The Quintette de Franck imposes a monumental conclusion: dramatic music, eminently expressive, which did not please its dedicatee, Camille Saint‑Saëns. Reservations swept away by Debussy, who heard in it “de la vraie musique”.
