The film Synopsis: In Poland of the 1960s, before taking his vows, Anna, a young orphan raised at the convent, goes to meet her aunt, the only member of her family still alive. She then discovered a dark family secret dating back to the Nazi occupation. Learn more about the film : Wanda Gruz's character is inspired by a real person, Helena Wolińska-Brus, a Jewish member of the communist resistance during the war and a military prosecutor after it, who emigrated to the United Kingdom, where the director knew him in the 1980s. He wanted to write a film script about her but eventually he failed to identify a personality as contradictory as that of that woman. The film is black and white, in 4/3 format, unusual in the 2000s, to evoke Polish films of the 1960s. Paweł Pawlikowski chose to turn in black and white, in order to limit the objects and elements present in the frame. The film had to be as minimal as possible on the screen. The film won multiple awards in 2013, 2014 and 2015: Grand Prize at the 2013 London Festival, Grand Prize at the 2013 Warsaw Festival, Grand Prize at the 2013 Les Arcs Festival, FIPRESCI Prize at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival, Cristal Arrow at the 2013 Arcs Film Festival, Best Foreign Language Film for Los Angeles Film Critics Association in 2014, Best Foreign Language Film at the 2015 BAFTA, Best Foreign Language Film at the 2015 Independent's Spirit Awards, Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2015, Goya Award for Best European Film in 2015...
