In the heart of the Pitsilia region lies the charming village of Dymes, known not only for its abundance of fruit but also for its delicious meat delicacies.
Traditional houses, winding roads climbing the hillsides, rocky terrain, small courtyards, roofs covered with tiles and sheet metal, and the picturesque upper floors of the houses all contribute to Dymes’s unique character.
Every September, Dymes invites locals and visitors to a two-day festival held in a picturesque setting surrounded by pine trees. Here, you can enjoy the beauty of nature, with its amazing colors and scents.
The festival is a wonderful opportunity to discover the variety of fresh local fruits and purchase them directly from the producers: apples, peaches, pears, nectarines, apricots, grapes, and plums—straight from the tree to your table.
Local farmers and producers will be happy to share their stories, talk about the unique characteristics of local fruit varieties, and answer visitors’ questions.
In addition to fruit, local producers showcase smoked meat delicacies at the festival. You can add them to sandwiches and pasta or simply enjoy them slice by slice. Whether you prefer meat delicacies for breakfast or like to pair them with a glass of wine, you’re sure to find a flavor here that will make your mouth water!
The festival also features a photo exhibition, and guests will be able to watch a demonstration of how to make palouzes—a delicate, creamy dessert made from grape juice mixed with flour.
Palouzes can be enjoyed either warm or chilled. But before that, be sure to sample the traditional dishes that will be prepared and served right on site: souvlaki, halloumi cheese, kleftiko, and for dessert—apple pie, fruit preserves, and other traditional sweets prepared the old-fashioned way (“sweets on a spoon”), as well as loukoumades—deep-fried dough balls soaked in syrup.
