Vasco Dantas, Portuguese pianist born in Porto, is artistic director of the Music Series Festivals, the Algarve Music Series and the Piano Concerto Festival. He has won over 50 awards and awards in international competitions, including the Valletta International Piano Competition Grand Prix (Malta), the SAR International Piano Competition Special Prize Princess Lalla Meryem (Morocco), the GianClaudio Chiais International Prize (Rome), the Münster Steinway & Sons Piano Competition, the Cidade de Vigo International Piano Competition (Spain), and the Porto Santa Cecília and Estoril Lisbon competitions.
His performances regularly led to performances in prestigious theatres on the five continents. After his notable appearances at the Hong Kong City Hall and the Great Hall of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, Vasco recently performed for the first time at the Carnegie Hall in New York, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and the Champs Elysées Theatre in Paris. He has also performed as a soloist with several orchestras, including the Kremlin Chamber Orchestra (Moscow), the Hong Kong Symphony, the Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester Pforzheim (Germany), the Gulbenkian Orchestra (Lisbon), the Porto Symphony Orchestra, the Filarmónica Portuguesa and the Orquestra Sinfónica Espírito Santo (Brazil). These collaborations gave him the opportunity to work with many renowned conductors, including Baldur Brönnimann, Choi Sown Le, Daniel Cohen, Dinis Sousa, Douglas Bostock, Günter Neuhold, Jan Wierzba, Joshua dos Santos, Martim Sousa Tavares, Martin André, Misha Rachlevsky, Nicholas Kok, Nikolay Lalov, Nuno Coelho, Osvaldo Ferreira, Pedro Carneiro, Pedro Neves, Peter Sauerwein, Rui Pinheiro, Vasily Sinaisky and Victor Hugo Toro.
Vasco Dantas performed for the first time live on Portuguese national television at the age of six, after learning piano at the age of four. In 2000, he was admitted with mention to the Conservatoire de Musique de Porto, where he studied with Rosgard Lingardson and completed his training in 2010 with the highest score. At the age of seven, Vasco also studied violin.
He obtained a Bachelor of Music degree with "First Class Distinction" at the Royal College of Music in London, where he studied piano with Dmitri Alexeev and Niel Immelman, as well as orchestra direction with Peter Stark and Natalia Luis-Bassa. He then obtained a Master's degree in interpretation with the highest score, as well as the doctoral degree "KonzertExam", under the direction of Heribert Koch, at the University of Münster.
Vasco was invited to teach as a lecturer at Boston University. He also holds a Master's degree in musical pedagogy from the University of Aveiro and the Art of Teaching degree from the Royal College of Music in London. He is regularly invited to give masterclasses and teach at festivals around the world, as well as to participate as a jury member in several international piano competitions.
He was invited to register for the KNS Classical, ARS Produktion, MPMP and Coviello Classics labels. His discography includes seven albums: Promenade (2015), Golden Liszt (2016), Freitas Branco
