The Armenian Cultural Gala celebrates the 35th anniversary of the Republic of Armenia, building a cultural bridge between Cyprus and Armenia
An evening dedicated to the richness, history and contemporary dynamism of Armenian culture comes to Nicosia. The Armenian Cultural Gala will take place on Thursday, September 24 at the Strovolos Municipal Theatre, on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the Republic of Armenia.
The event aims to be a cultural bridge between Cyprus and Armenia, two countries linked by long‑standing historical ties. It is addressed both to those who wish to discover Armenian culture for the first time and to those who want to reconnect with familiar traditions, sounds and images.
On stage will be presented the musical spectacle “Komitas”, dedicated to the precious heritage of Armenian music. The production was created by the well‑known composer Arthur Grigoryan, with the aim of preserving and highlighting the work of the legendary Komitas Vardapet, who contributed decisively to the rescue of traditional Armenian music.
Directed by Hrach Keshishyan and with a refreshed distribution, the performance combines old folk traditions with contemporary sounds. It is presented by the State Song Theatre of Armenia, a major cultural organization operating since 1994 and established as one of the leading centers of modern music and performing arts in the country.
The program also includes the State Pantomime Theatre of Erevan, with a show that marries ancient history with modern movement. Through the choreographic vision of Rima Pipoyan, the traditional Armenian carpet becomes a living symbol, gaining new energy and contemporary stage expression.
The experience will begin at 18:30 with a warm Armenian welcome. Visitors will have the opportunity to taste traditional sweets and drinks, take photos in a specially arranged space and visit a pop‑up shop with souvenirs from the event. The main artistic program will follow, where music, movement and theatricality will unite the historic past with the modern cultural identity of Armenia.
The event is supported by the VF Foundation and organized with the backing of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia.
