Between 1991 and 2025, I photographed the daily life of Deleon Bigwoods, a small village in the hills of Westmoreland, Jamaica.
Every night, a grocery bar became the heartbeat of the community around its sound system: the Prosperous.
These photographs tell the story of Reggae Dancehall as well as the memory of a rural world today undergoing profound transformation.
I had never considered exposing them.
Cyclone Melissa's passage in October 2025 upset this evidence.
Several of the photographed sites were destroyed.
The exhibition brings together portraits and scenes of the daily rhythmic in the evening by a massive and artisanal sound system.
Those who wish to extend this meeting can participate in local actions via the organisation Jah Works Experience, engaged for many years in rural co-development in Jamaica.
