Nuance indication that commands the progressive increase of sound intensity, for example from piano (p) to fortissimo (ff), and which can apply as well to a few notes as to a large number of measures (the entirety of the work in the case of Ravel’s Boléro).

Regulars at the Théâtre du Châtelet, the percussionists of Quatuor Beat present a creation in which they revisit the repertoire of classical music, from yesterday to today. At first, everything starts within the rules of the art. It looks like a concert, with its customs and manners, but little by little things pick up speed in favor of a true show where sound, movement and light mingle (always with a lot of humor). Arranged, adapted or composed by the quartet’s musicians, the scores cover a broad span of music history, from Baroque to today’s works, passing through classical and repetitive or minimalist music. Marimba, vibraphone, glockenspiel, bass drum and cymbals are the main instruments of this show, where the musicians also play with their bodies. A way to increase – you said crescendo? – the concert to turn it into a performance for young and old, where everything is an excuse to make sound: strike, rub, clash, dance…
And the clown Colette Gomette (alias Hélène Gustin) has stuck her nose into this affair, accompanying the quartet’s musicians in the staging: if the percussion serves a poetic approach to music, also expect a festive, inventive and participatory show!
