Composer, performer and researcher, Daeseong Kim is interested in the links between Korean musical traditions and contemporary forms of creation. Recognized figure on the international scene, he makes the musical traditions of East and West dialogue in his works, drawing especially on the relationships between music, nature, history and spirituality. His work thus offers a contemporary reading of the Korean musical heritage, while opening a dialogue between different cultures and sensitivities.

Concert The Sea of Korea, Seokguram and Bulguksa
The first concert brings together a classical trio composed of Kim Damin on violin, Marie Ythier on cello and Antoine Alerini on piano. The three artists invite the audience to discover the Korean maritime landscapes as well as Bulguksa Temple and Seokguram Cave, two major sites of Korean spiritual heritage. Inspired by Smetana’s symphonic poem My Homeland, this creation makes the landscapes and cultural identity dialogue. Through the interpretation of The Seas of the Homeland, the trio evokes the deep relationship between the Korean people and their territory, from its maritime landscapes to its historical and spiritual heritage.

Haegeum and piano concert The Smile of Gyeongju
During the second concert, virtuoso Solji Park honors the haegeum, a traditional Korean bowed string instrument, whose unique timbre blends with the sounds of the piano. Inspired by Buddhist spirituality, the works performed invite a musical journey into the heart of Gyeongju and Seokguram, between serenity, contemplation and inner quest.
The Smile of Gyeongju opens this musical journey around peace and compassion. From Haetal to Yunhoe, the works each address themes of awakening and freedom, through different musical languages. The distinctive timbre of the haegeum, combined with the piano, thus accompanies the audience in this discovery of Korean Buddhist spirituality.
