Through the figure of Claude Monet, this lecture offers an original look at the history of the 9ᵉ arrondissement of Paris. Far from a strictly artistic approach, it will explore the connections between the famous painter and this neighborhood undergoing transformation in the XIXᵉ century.
Which places did Monet frequent in the 9ᵉ arrondissement? What role did this neighborhood, then booming, play in his trajectory and in the birth of Impressionism? Between cafés, theatres, galleries and artist networks, this meeting will allow the discovery of a bustling Paris where artistic creation, cultural life and urban upheavals intersect.
A lively and accessible way to rediscover both Claude Monet… and the history of an emblematic district of the capital.
This lecture will be led by Michel Güet, guide lecturer.
