Can we, in a single evening, celebrate Beethoven, discover an unprecedented creation, rediscover a forgotten work and be surprised by a musical mystery? That's the challenge of this program.
In Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 “Pastoral”, whose 200th anniversary of his death we commemorate this year, the composer expresses the feelings evoked by the landscape: the murmur of a stream, the rustic dance of a village feast, the sudden flash of a storm, then the regained serenity.
Attending a world premiere is sharing the thrill of a first breath, the moment a work is born in our ears. For this new composition titled “Ode à la Vie”, Alexandre Manoukian illustrates through his music nature and climate issues.
In counterpoint, La Nuit et l’Amour by Augusta Holmès unfolds the ardor of an incandescent romance. Taken from Ludus pro Patria, this piece opens the season dedicated to Holmès, whose composer will be celebrated throughout the year. A daring composer, Holmès makes the night a vibrant theater: the shadow throbs with an incandescent desire, the strings murmur, the winds sigh, and the orchestra ignites in a sweeping lyrical surge.
A touch of mystery will punctuate this program: l’Invitation au voyage, a work whose identity will only be revealed after listening. A surprise extending the concert into this nature‑inspired universe.
