Who said bananas only grow in the tropics? In Cyprus, in the Paphos region, the villages of Kissonerga and Peyia are considered ideal places for growing bananas thanks to their subtropical climate. And very soon, Kissonerga will once again dedicate a vibrant and delicious Banana Festival to this sunny fruit!
Guests can look forward to a true celebration of Cypriot culture, cuisine, and local traditions. You’ll have the chance to take a walk to the archaeological sites of Mosfiliá and Skalia, see the banana plantations, and explore the ruins of the Church of Saints Zinaida and Philonilla.
And best of all—a true banana-themed culinary journey awaits you!
Fresh and dried bananas, fragrant sweets, juices, liqueurs, and banana-based cocktails—there’s something for everyone.
The festival grounds will also feature a fair with traditional Cypriot treats: palauzes—a dessert made from grape juice and flour; resi—coarsely ground wheat cooked in meat broth; as well as fresh homemade pastries and other national dishes.
Local musicians and dance groups will create a festive atmosphere. And for our youngest guests, there will be a separate children’s area with drawing activities, games, and inflatable castles.
This is a great opportunity to spend the day with the whole family, learn about Cypriot traditions, try unique local dishes, and, of course, discover more about one of the region’s main fruits—the banana.
Kissonerga invites you to a celebration of flavor, music, traditions, and good cheer!
