From a romantic encounter to thwarted love, the Argentine artist questions colonialism, guilt and the need to challenge what lives within her: her Westernized gaze, her illusion of redemption and her thirst to save the other.
It all begins with a mutual rescue project. Confronted with loneliness, Marina Otero undertakes a trip to Tangier with the idea of saving a man by marrying him, and giving him papers and a life in Europe. From this story, she aims to create an autofiction work; but her meeting with Ayoub overturns everything. The abstract idea of a mutual salvation project shatters upon contact with reality and gives way to a performance where the intimate story is doubled by a radical social denunciation.
Marina Otero chooses to name her show AYOUB, a first name very common in the Islamic world and borne by hundreds of children killed by the Zionist state of Israel in Gaza. AYOUB thus becomes the symbol of a reality marked by violence and suffering in Palestine, establishing a parallel between personal history and collective tragedy.
Marina Otero tells the story of a thwarted love in Tangier struck by Gaza, colonialism and what a name can carry. Alongside Ibrahim Ibnou Goush, the Argentine based in Madrid composes her most political work, without giving up the impudence that defines her. Masterful.

La Maison des Métallos, in partnership with Peuple & Culture, invites you to a surveying workshop around the book L’envers du monde : Défaire les dominations, repenser la justice by Emilia Roig.
Drawing on her own experience, Emilia Roig studies how different forms of oppression materialize in our lives and how they intersect and reinforce each other. Relying on the work of Bell Hooks, Gayatri Spivak and also Boaventura de Sousa Santos, she analyzes discrimination through the individual, institutional, structural and historical dimensions.
After uncovering the various intertwinings of racism and discrimination in all layers of society, she identifies cornerstones to end oppressions, emphasizing in particular the need for greater empathy towards one another.
Arpentage is a collaborative discovery method for a work. It is recommended not to read the book beforehand! The Métallos team will bring a copy, cold drinks and sweets, for a convivial sharing moment.
