And if, in the age of climate warming, we could stroll in the cool and out of the sun via a pedestrian network parallel to the vacant ground floors and building courtyards? That's the proposal that Juliette Galin—young architect graduated from the École nationale supérieure d’architecture de Paris-Malaquais in June 2025—will present at this conference.
As part of her final project, she undertook extensive archival and drawing work, leading her to redraw the entirety of the ground floors of the Sentier district. Titled *Éloge de la lenteur, dentelle urbaine au cœur du Sentier*, this mapping and conceptualization work has the main idea of using the maze of small streets, passages, building courtyards, ground floors and the first basements (spaces abandoned by the old textile shops of the Sentier) to create an urban lace protected from heat and a source of cooling and air circulation.
Created like a patchwork from documents from the BnF, Gallica, the Bibliothèque historique; this map restores the solids, voids, passages and thresholds of the district as they appeared at the beginning of the 19th century, offering a fine and unprecedented reading of the Sentier.
