The village square will smell of tradition
“Here’s the good pasteli! Only with three grains,” sang the pasteli sellers (itinerant pasteli vendors) in the old days. This may not happen today, but pasteli is still produced in the village of Anogyra in the same traditional way.
Pasteli is a traditional sweet made from carob syrup, and Anogyra was one of the main carob-growing areas in Cyprus. Hence, every year it is honored by organizing a very special festival. It is therefore no coincidence that the local festival is dedicated to the harvest and carob products. The centerpiece of the festival is undoubtedly the demonstration of pasteli preparation: a long, complex and painstaking process.
This year Anogyra will celebrate on Sunday, September 20, once again, its rich cultural and gastronomic heritage with an upgraded and purely thematic Pasteli Festival.
