En février 1945, une lettre écrite en français par un Sonderkommando et adressée par un certain Hermann à sa femme et sa fille est retrouvée dans les ruines d'un crématoire d'Auschwitz-Birkenau. Pendant des décennies, ce témoignage unique d'un Sonderkommando français a été attribué de manière erronée à un dénommé Chaïm Hermann. In 2018, Karen Taieb, responsible for archives at the Mémorial de la Shoah, discovers the true identity of the author, Hersz Strasfogel. Cet ouvrage livre une publication inédite de cette lettre, en raconte la trajectoire, et proposed divers éléments d'analyse pour éclairer ce document majeur.
