Simou highlights its local products and traditions through experiential workshops, agricultural displays, katimerka from Chrysso Lefos and live music with Stefanos Pelekanis
The Simou community of Paphos Province sets a large table in the village square and invites us to the first Simou AgroFest on Saturday, September 12. This is a full day celebration of agricultural production, gastronomy, tradition and culture, which will begin at 11.00 in the morning and continue until 19.00.
For eight hours, residents and visitors will have the opportunity to get to know the rural wealth of the area, meet local producers and craftsmen and try authentic Cypriot dishes. The festival is not limited, however, to a simple product exhibition. His program includes experiential workshops, traditional agricultural work, exhibitions, music, dance and activities for children, turning Simos Square into a live outdoor workshop of Cypriot tradition.
Ferment, bake and discover the flavors of the place
The official opening will take place at 11.00, while at the same time the live coverage of the festival will begin by Zenith FM radio, which will last until 13.00.
The first little visitors will immediately enter the action. From 11.00 until 12.00, the Traditional Laboratory of Giorgoula Christodoulou will present the experiential workshop "I knead and bake cookies". The children will get to know their manufacturing process in person and in the end the cookies will be served.
At 12.00 traditional agricultural displays will follow, with threshing and grinding wheat. Two tasks inextricably linked to the everyday life of the old Cypriot countryside will come to life again in front of the public, reminding the wheat route before reaching the family table.
Trahanas, Halumi, Anass and Palouses
An important place in the program is held by the experiential gastronomic workshops, through which visitors will know traditional techniques and products of Cypriot cuisine.
From 14.00 until 35.00, the Alinery Cheesehouse will present the process of making and cutting the trahanas, offering at the end a relevant treat. At 16.00 there will be a workshop for the manufacture of gravel and anaris from the same cheese factory, with attendees having the opportunity to try the two favourite Cypriot cheeses.
At 17.00, the palaise will take place. Guests will watch the way to make the traditional tea from grape juice and enjoy a freshly made paluge.
Chrisso Lefus will have a special presence at the festival, which will produce on-site katimerca, transferring to Simos Square the knowledge, aromas and taste of a recipe that remains deeply connected to the Cypriot tradition.
Music, dance and activities for children
Following the greetings of the President of the Community Council and the President of the Cultural Group of Alumni and Friends of Simos, which will take place at 13.15, the program will continue with traditional dances from 13.30 until 14:00.
From 15.00 until the end of the festival, Stefanos Pelekanis and his five-member musical scheme will take on the fun, presenting a program with traditional and beloved musicians.
For children will operate a specially shaped corner with painting and games from 13.45 to 15.45. Throughout the day there will also be rides on a roller coaster and horses, while there will be farm animals and educational exhibits.
Exhibitions, old photographs and traditional arts
From 11.15 until 19.00 there will be an exhibition of agricultural products and crafts, and from 11.30 it will be an open exhibition of painting and photography. At the same time, old photos of Simu will tell moments of life, of..
