1 Degree Celsius questions the ability of art to inspire action in the context of an ecological crisis. On stage, seven dancers move with surgical precision to convey the impact of climate change on our bodies and identity. The play offers a unique sensory immersion: the musical score is created based on real data about rising atmospheric temperatures, while the lighting synchronously reacts in real time to the increasing heat of the earth. Sung Im Her directly confronts us with the sustainability of our urban lifestyle and our responsibilities.
Sung Im Her's work stands out for its constant balance between concise aesthetics and powerful narrative. Her style is defined by a raw and geometric gestural language that emerged from exploring the very essence of movement, freed from any prior cultural significance. Behind this seeming abstraction, the choreographer explores sharp social issues.
Commissioned by the National Asian Culture Center (ACC), this performance fits into a path of international excellence. Trained at Hansung University in Korea and then at the P.A.R.T.S. school in Belgium under Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Sung Im Her draws inspiration from the recurring minimalism of postmodern dance. Her work with legendary Belgian companies such as Les ballets C de la B and Needcompany has brought intense physical theatricality to her art. This dual influence allows her to place the human being and its relationship with the natural world at the center of contemporary creation, to make us vibrate together for our single planet Earth.
